I don’t know very much at all about Islam or it’s customs so halal was something new to me. I first saw the word on the menu on my flight to Dubai…it just said something like “all items on this menu are halal”. This morning I was eating Corn Flakes for breakfast and on the front of the box it said halal once again…so I just googled it.
It simply means “permitted”, and it has to do with the way food is prepared. The Qu’ran has certain guidelines about food consumption, and halal just means that the food is within those guidelines. If you eat something labeled with that, it means the animal was slaughtered in the most humane way possible…and that it contains no pork, blood, alcohol, or carnivorous animals.
